Race Reports

I find writing the race reports to be almost as fun as actually running the races. I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I enjoyed writing and living them!

2010 EVENTS

Ironman Coer d'Alene
I've been slacking on my race reports for the 2010 season, mainly from the training for Ironman Coeur d'Alene.  I'm happy to present to you my crowning achievement to date in my triathlon career though in the race report for Ironman Coeur d'Alene.

2009 EVENTS

Foster Grant Ironman World Championship 70.3
What a week and what a race!   I didn't do as well as I wanted to as far as a finish time goes but this race has not taken the tops as my all-time favorite!

2009 U of L Triathlon
I missed the podium by 30 seconds again this year at the U of L tri.   I did PR by close to 10 minutes off last years time though so overall I was pleased with my performance.

2009 MS 150 Bike Tour
This was my first MS 150 and I thoroughly enjoyed riding and fund raising for such a worthy cause.   I dedicated my ride to Robi Rispone, a friend that is battling MS and his family.

2009 Meat Pie Triathlon
2009 marked my second shot at the Meat Pie Tri.  I ended up having a great race and knocked close to 20 minutes off my time from 2008.   Of special note was a good friend of mine, Jason Taylor, participated in his first triathlon at Meat Pie.   It was a great moment to go meet him out on the course and walk with him for the last mile.  Great job Jason!

2009 Redman 70.3 Half-Ironman Triathlon
Broken goggles, torrential rain and the lingering effects from the flu were all obstacles in the day for the Redman Half-Ironman distance triathlon.

2009 Snake Bite Triathlon
The Snake Bite Triathlon was a fun little sprint triathlon held in Morgan City, Louisiana.   The weather was perfect and I had a strong race even though my body was literally spent after a tough training week.

2009 Heart O' Dixie Triathlon
The Heart O' Dixie triathlon didn't disappoint again this year.   I had a great time in this challenging point to point to point race.

2009 Heatwave Classic Triathlon
I participated in the Heatwave Classic Tri this year with a broken rib.   I had the best bike split of my life and improved considerably over last year even though I struggled greatly with my injury on the run.

2009 Avia Wildflower 70.3
EPIC is the best way I can describe the brutally difficult course that is Wildflower.  It was exponentially more difficult than New Orleans and the toughest course I've ever been on.

TrialAPalooza Bike Time Trial
This 10-11 mile, full effort, bike race was my first time trial.   It was a fun, interesting experience and I ended up finishing in 8th place out of 27 participants in my category with a time of 27:15.  I was told that was respectable.   Maybe it was, but I dunno since it was my first pure bike race.  I felt a little out of place not having to swim before or run after I got off the bike.

2009 Ironman New Orleans Half-Ironman
Goal list time!  The New Orleans Half-Ironman was a day for chasing down some dreams.  This would be my first attempt at a 70.3 distance race.

2009 Athens Triathlon (300m swim / 13.8 mile bike / 5K run)
What a difference one year and sticking to the plan can make.   I improved my time by over 20 minutes from last year and took a 2nd place podium finish in my division.  Everything came together for one of the most memorable races of my triathlon career.

HUNAD Challenge Triathlon (300 yard swim / 13.5 mile bike / 5K run)
Beautiful weather was in store for the 2nd Annual running of the HUNAD Challenge.  The field DOUBLED to 4 participants this year and a great time was had by all!

Mardi Gras Marathon (13.1 mile run)
The weather was perfect for the 2009 edition of the Mardi Gras Marathon / Half-Marathon.   I would have had a PR on the half-marathon course had I not had my gastric funhouse event at mile 9.   It was a fun race anyway.

2008 EVENTS

Baton Rouge Beach Half Marathon (13.1 mile run)
The Baton Rouge Beach Half-Marathon would be my 29th and my final race of 2008.    To think, no swimming or biking to precede the run?   I surely was gonna smoke this race...   or not.   :)

2008 U of L, Lafayette Triathlon (200 m swim / 8.5 mile bike / 2.5 mile run)
27 seconds...  27 seconds away from a podium finish in the MALE division this time.  :)

2008 Pumkinman Triathlon (1500m swim / 30 mile bike / 10K run)
The Pumpkinman triathlon in Boulder City, Nevada (right ouside Vegas) was hands down my most challenging race of the year.   The course was amazingly beautiful but brutal throughout.

2008 Heritage Eagleman Triathlon (1/3 mile swim / 16.5 mile bike / 5K run)
The Eagleman Tri was a first annual race just outside Hattiesburg, MS.   I got my first podium finish which had a pretty significant catch to it.   Check out the full race report for the details.

2008 Beach Blast Triathlon (1500m swim / 25 mile bike / 10K run)
I won't lie and say it was my best race of the year because it wasn't.   I was penalized on the bike, ran an extra 2 miles on the run and spent 15 minutes in "Transition 3".   It was racing though and any race is better than no race at all!

2008 Meat Pie Triathlon  (1/2 mile swim / 20 mile bike / 5K run)
After all the cancellations due to hurricanes over the past month it was nice to be out racing.  How could I pass up a triathlon that was named after two of my favorite foods - meat and and pie!     The Meat Pie triathlon was also the site of the USAT State Club Championship which my tri club, Baton Rouge Tri, took home with an extremely strong showing.

2008 River Cities Triathlon  (1/2 mile swim / 18.5 mile bike / 5K run)
River Cities was probably the most organized, professional race I've run so far this year.  It was a great race although I wish they would have started it a little earlier in the morning because the temperature was fast approaching 100 degrees by the end of the race.

2008 Heart O' Dixie Triathlon  (1/2 mile swim / 27.5 mile bike / 7 mile run)
Wow, what a race!   The Heart O' Dixie Triathlon was a great, challenging race that started in Louisville and ended up in Philadelphia, MS.  I set a PR on my bike with a 22mph split and had an overall great race.

2008 Heatwave Classic Triathlon (.5 mile swim / 24.5 mile bike / 10K run)
A really great course on a VERY hot day is what Heatwave had in store.   The run was a challenge but as usual I had a great time.

2008 TriAmerica Louisiana Long Course (1.24 mile swim / 38 mile bike / 9.3 mile run)
I finished last and with only 1 sock but I finished.   It was my biggest challenge to date.

2008 Twin Cities Triathlon (500m swim / 18 mile bike / 5K run)

This sprint triathlon, held in Pineville, LA, would be my first of two triathlons for the weekend.   It was a fun race that quite a few BR Tri members attended.

2008 Crawfishman Traithlon (1000m swim / 18 mile bike / 4 mile run)

"Spanish Moss in my hand turn me into CRAWFISHMAN!"

The 2008 Crawfishman, set in Bush, LA, was a well organized, fun race that brought back memories of one of my favorite series of books that I read as a child.   I struggled just a bit less in the water and finished in just under 2 hours which I'm told is pretty darn respectable.

2008 Louisiana Triathlon (800m swim / 30K bike / 5K run)
The LA Tri had the second longest swim so far in a race environment and although I did struggle a bit I'm feeling more confident in the water with each passing race.

2008 HUNAD CHALLENGE TRIATHLON (175m swim / 13mi bike / 5K run)
My first triathlon, which only had 2 participants (Hunter and I), was a great time.  I won my first and only triathlon to date.   I guess it wasn't fair since Hunter was on a mountain bike and I was on a Road bike.

2008, 101ST ANNUAL JACKSON DAY RACE(9k run)
My first race of the season was the 101st annual Jackson Day race in New Orleans, LA.   It was a fun race with a great turnout.
